Alex Harmer

Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach
Biography

Alex Harmer joined the University of Iowa Olympic Strength and Conditioning staff in August of 2021. Harmer coordinates the strength and conditioning duties for the Men's Wrestling program and oversees Cheer and Dance. He joins the Hawkeyes after his two years of being at Solon High School as a strength and conditioning coach. Prior to Solon, Harmer was an assistant at Minnesota State University, Mankato where he was in charge of the women’s basketball, baseball, wrestling, and cheer programs while assisting with football. Prior to Mankato, Harmer also served internship stints at North Dakota State University, Iowa State University, and the University of Iowa.

Harmer earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Fitness Management from Wartburg College with a Minor in Leadership and Business. He then obtained a Master’s Degree from Concordia University, Irvine in Coaching and Administration.  

Harmer is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as well as being CPR/AED certified.  

 He resides in Iowa City with his girlfriend, Reghan, and their dog, Charlie.
