Congratulations to Soccer and Field Hockey on their Fall season. We have enjoyed watching the winter sports begin and are excited to see those student-athletes in action! This month, we began coordinating our full-time staff to volunteer coach ‘check ins’ for the exercise progression portion of the intern curriculum. Coach Evans and Coach Clemens provided educational presentations revolving around their capstone programming project. With finals right around the corner we are looking forward to getting in more continuing education as a staff and some solid training from our student-athlete in the next couple of weeks.

The fall semester has been productive for the Olympic Strength & Conditioning staff. Within the month of October, the staff continued the programming and periodization curriculum for the volunteer coaches. These weekly presentations have been conducted around preparing our volunteer coaches for their capstone programming project. In addition to the volunteer coach’s education, Coach Evans presented to the full time staff on Biomechanics. Finally, Coach Alexander and Coach Clemens were invited to attend a Davenport Quarterback’s Club dinner to represent notable women in the athletic department. Good luck to our fall sports who are beginning their post-season pursuit! Go Hawks!

The fall has been of to a great start! The staff has been productive training our student-athletes and rooting for the Hawks competing this fall. In addition, the educational curriculum for our volunteer coaches has begun. The volunteer coaches are partaking in a programming and periodization lecture series. We are looking forward to seeing what they create for the capstone program project! The Olympic staff has also partook in educational presentations provided by 1080 and Kieser. Finally, Coach Alexander and Coach Clemens have been leading a monthly DEI Multicultural Affinity Group for female student-athletes titled HERky’s. We are excited to see what is ahead for October - Go Hawks!

The month of August has flown by but we have enjoyed seeing our student-athletes back on campus and resuming team training sessions. Shout out to our fall sports beginning their season’s off with a bang - Go Hawks! We are excited to welcome our newest member of the Olympic Strength staff, Alex Harmer as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. Coach Harmer’s primary responsibility is Wrestling. Additionally, we appreciate the dedication of our four volunteer coaches; newly added, Carly Boss, Caleb Malone, Nate Waikel and returning Brandon Miller to our team.

The Olympic Strength & Conditioning staff had a productive summer. Days were composed of training student-athletes who were on campus as well as professional development. Additionally, numerous conversations and presentation were given alongside our intern group. Most recently, a presentation from our Director, Bill Maxwell, on interviews and the field as a profession. A huge thank you to Brandon Miller, Blair Widmer, Connor Warrick, and Jordan Schmitz for all your help this summer! We are looking forward to the return of all our teams and ready to kick off the fall.

The month of June was a productive return to training for our student-athletes. The staff has enjoyed welcoming our new Volunteer Coaches for the Summer internships term; Brandon Miller, Jordan Schmitz, Connor Warrick, & Blair Widmer. Our Summer Volunteer Coaches have been immersed into our curriculums ranging from exercise and speed progressions to GPS education. Additionally, we have added the 1080 Quantum to our training, monitoring, and assessment arsenal. June has been productive and the Olympic S&C staff are looking forward to an even better month of July!

This year has been provided many challenges along with uncertainty. The strength staff has unending gratitude for the student-athlete’s willingness to train and long-lasting commitment to their sport program’s improvement. We can not say thank you loud enough, you all have made this time exciting and fun despite the circumstances. This school year and competitive seasons have resulted in notable academic honors and numerous championship titles by multiple sport programs! What a time to be a Hawkeye!

This month has been an exciting one with more stand out performance from our student-athletes. Men’s & Women’s Gymnastics had strong seasons and standout individual performances. Congratulations to both! Additionally, we celebrated many seniors within their final competitions this month. The strength staff is so proud of the work you have done!

The month of March has been filled with a ton of competition and monumental seasons. The Olympic Strength and Conditioning staff has bee in full support and spectator mode. It has been great to see our student-athletes competing again while accomplishing their performance goals! Kudos to Adam Kearns, one of our past interns, for landing a full time position with IMG Academy in Florida. We are also proud to announce that our very own, Coach Renteria, passed the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Certification, was selected to receive the University of Iowa College of Education C. Esco Obermann Memorial Scholarship In Rehabilitation Counseling, and completed her comprehensive exams. Great work Coach Renteria on the second masters & thank you for adding another niche to our multifaceted staff!

This month has been an exciting one due to almost all of our sports beginning their competitive seasons. Some sport programs have gone as long as 435 days without competition so we are excited to say the least! We have begun our internship curriculum with our educational lifting progressions and presentations. Our interns have hit the ground running and approach each opportunity as a learning experience.
