Summer training has begun and we love to see the commitment and discipline with training! We welcome Volunteer Coaches; Liam Cound, Elise Deaver, Nick Boss, Alex Schmoke, Caleb Malone, Val Moniquet, and Cole Weiss. This week we will be kicking off our Volunteer Coach exercise progressions. In addition, we have begun our programming & training prescription curriculum for the internship.

May has been filled with continuing education and some much needed office time for the staff. Additionally, the staff completed community service on our sponsored highway in Iowa City doing road clean up. As the semester wound down, we had a blast seeing all of our spring sport athletes finish out fantastic seasons. Congratulations to the class of 2022, you did it! Go Hawks!

We are excited to welcome our volunteer coach, Val Moniquet from Brussels, Belgium. Val will be joining us for the remainder of the spring semester and throughout the summer. The strength staff has been hard at work on continuing education and will be attending a couple conferences in May. Good luck to all of our spring sports!

Congratulations to all of our winter sports on your amazing seasons and achievements. March has been filled with professional development, education, new training equipment, and high efforts from our student-athletes. As a Strength & Conditioning staff, we continue to progress our volunteer coaches through our curriculum in preparation for the programming capstone project. We also have been utilizing our new pieces of Keiser equipment. These new training options have provided our student-athletes with an additional loading variation and stimulus. We are dedicated to our craft and are working to up our game for the betterment of the Hawks!

Notably, February ended with two Big Ten Conference Champion teams. Congratulations to Men’s Track & Field who won the Big Ten Indoor Conference Championship and the Women’s Basketball team who were crowned Regular Season Big Ten Champions. The Olympic Strength & Conditioning Staff love to see our student-athletes accomplish their performance and academic goals. We look forward to more success to be had during this Spring! Our Volunteer Coaches have begin their capstone education experience and specific exercise progressions. Remember, the search for our Summer Internship closes on March 4, 2022.

The Olympic Strength & Conditioning staff has been back in action with team training sessions. We are excited to welcome our spring volunteer coaching class; returning Caleb Malone and newly added Brett Platts, Liam Cound, and Val Moniquet. Their curriculum has begun and we look forward to their growth in the profession. Good luck to the winter sports and those who’s seasons are right around the corner. Go Hawks!

December was another great month of training and productivity. The year of 2021 has been filled with numerous challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic but we applaud our student-athletes in their unending commitment. On that note, we wanted to thank our fellow sport performance members, specifically, our athletic trainers for their effort to mitigate the risk and keep us safe and healthy! Special thanks to our fall volunteer coaches; Brandon Miller, Carly Boss, Nate Waikel, and Caleb Malone for all your help and open-mindedness to grow. Finally, good luck to our winter sport student-athletes who are in the midst of their seasons. Go Hawks! The Olympic Strength & Conditioning staff are excited to take on 2022 with you!

Congratulations to Soccer and Field Hockey on their Fall season. We have enjoyed watching the winter sports begin and are excited to see those student-athletes in action! This month, we began coordinating our full-time staff to volunteer coach ‘check ins’ for the exercise progression portion of the intern curriculum. Coach Evans and Coach Clemens provided educational presentations revolving around their capstone programming project. With finals right around the corner we are looking forward to getting in more continuing education as a staff and some solid training from our student-athlete in the next couple of weeks.

The fall semester has been productive for the Olympic Strength & Conditioning staff. Within the month of October, the staff continued the programming and periodization curriculum for the volunteer coaches. These weekly presentations have been conducted around preparing our volunteer coaches for their capstone programming project. In addition to the volunteer coach’s education, Coach Evans presented to the full time staff on Biomechanics. Finally, Coach Alexander and Coach Clemens were invited to attend a Davenport Quarterback’s Club dinner to represent notable women in the athletic department. Good luck to our fall sports who are beginning their post-season pursuit! Go Hawks!

The fall has been of to a great start! The staff has been productive training our student-athletes and rooting for the Hawks competing this fall. In addition, the educational curriculum for our volunteer coaches has begun. The volunteer coaches are partaking in a programming and periodization lecture series. We are looking forward to seeing what they create for the capstone program project! The Olympic staff has also partook in educational presentations provided by 1080 and Kieser. Finally, Coach Alexander and Coach Clemens have been leading a monthly DEI Multicultural Affinity Group for female student-athletes titled HERky’s. We are excited to see what is ahead for October - Go Hawks!
